Roberto Kusterle

After looking at Dave McKean, I noticed some of his work involved animals and human faces such as this piece of work from his series "Cages."

Dave McKean - Cages

I then decided to look for other photographers or artist who used the idea of manipulating animals and humans. I then came across Roberto Kusterle, an Italian photographer, and was very intrigued by his work. It relates very well with the coursework theme of Dreamworld, as they are very surreal images. I mainly focused on his series of work called "Riti Del Corpo".
The human figures seem to look like they are in pain or suffering as they have animal-like patterns and textures on their skin.

More of Roberto Kusterle's work on the "Riti del corpo" series can be found here. http://www.robertokusterle.it/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=410

Own work inspired by Dave Mckean

This work is separate from my coursework, however, I was inspired by Dave McKean who I had studied for my photography coursework. I had to help my friend with some work, and he needed some horror photos for his work, so he asked me to take some photos. I used my DSLR, a black backdrop, and translucent lighting. I then edited the photos on photoshop. Please click on each photo to enlarge them.

Dave McKean

Our coursework theme is Dreamworld, and to start off, I have been looking at Dave Mckean's work. As well as a photographer, he is also an illustrator, graphic designer, comic book artist and film maker. I find his work very interesting as it fits into the theme of Dreamworld. His work is rather dark, surreal and scary.

More of his work can be seen on this fansite. http://www.mckean-art.co.uk/

Pinhole Photos

In class a created a pinhole camera. A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single aperture.

Once the photographic paper in the pinhole camera box had been exposed to light, I used the darkroom to develop the photograph. I then scanned the photograph into photoshop and inverted it from a negative to a positive.

Musical Instruments

Using my DSLR Canon 500D, I had to take photos of different instruments as part of my next task given to me in class. I had to use different types of lighting. I also used the RAW converter, and the idea of layering images in photoshop to create these final pieces.

36 exposures made black and white

As part of the task, i had to chose my 6 best photos taken from the 36 exposures and make them black and white. To do this I scanned in the negatives using the negative scanner and used photoshop to make them black and white.

36 exposures

In class we were given a task to take 36 photographs of 36 different things written on a list, this was my first colour negative take with my analogue slr camera. Here are a few of the outcomes.
